No Dishes! Mother’s Day Brunch & Dinner Menus

Champagne, cookies & a flower. Thanks Mom!

8am-9pm at the buffets!

WE’VE COME UP with this simple if crude formula … 20 X 300 X 3 = mom meals.

Let’s call it the meal-culator.

Here’s the logic: Your mom made you 3 meals a day just about every day for the first 20 years of your life. We gave mom a few days (65) off and went with 300 instead of 365…so 300 days X 3 meals each day on average for 20 years. The number: 18,000, is the number of meals your mom made for you for two decades. Sure there were those days when you bought lunch at school and other variables, but nearly 20,000 some meals is a lot of love from mom.

You get the point.

Here’s our Las Vegas Mother’s Day brunch and dinners menus…

Nevadans Love Beer. Well, Barley’s is Pouring for Brewfest!

REVIEW (posted May 16)

I DON’T MEAN to rub it in, but if you missed Barley’s Brewfest last last Saturday, the 7th, you should kick yourself a little – you missed one heck of a day. It started with great weather, sunny, warm and not too much wind. And the beers were pretty darned good. Oh yeah, there was food and live music, too, but so what? It’s all about the beer, right?

Yep, blue beer...gotta love Brewfest!

My coworker Rob conned his wife into driving us, so we were free to attempt a comprehensive tasting — if you know what I mean. And I think you do. Let’s just say things got a little hazy. But never fear, I remember the brews that really stood out for me.

My favorite was Barley’s IPA (not because I’m a company stooge). Unlike a lot of IPAs, it’s not stupidly hoppy. My buddies agreed it had a great fruity taste, without any added fruit. Fantastic on a sunny day. My next fave was Tenaya Creek Brewing’s Nut Brown Ale. It was rich and smooth with just the right touch of bitterness. As usual, Widmer’s Hefeweizen stood out — hey it was a hot day. And both Sin City’s & Barley’s stouts went down really well.

I’m going to finish the most unexpected beer — Kona Brewing’s Wild Blue Blueberry Lager. Yep, blue beer! Some of my buddies thought it was just too weird. I agree, it was weird. But at least they tried something new. And you should too. Get down to Barley’s and try one of their hand-crafted brews that you’ve never had before.

Good or bad, what “weird” beers have you tried?

Cheers, and see you there next year!

PREVIEW (posted April 28)

CONGRATULATIONS, FELLOW NEVADANS! (Sorry if that seems too much, considering I was a Californian, a bit over two years ago.) Anyway, according to a big beer research group, we are the leading beer drinkers in the whole of the United States of America! Our 44 gallons, per person, per year, just beats out some state on the East Coast. I forget which one, but who cares? We’re No. 1, people! Numero Uno! Even California can’t touch us.

You want more good news? An exciting opportunity to consume some of your 44 gallons for 2011 is just a bit more than couple of weeks away. (After all, you wouldn’t want those snow-bound Easterners to pass us, would you?) I’m talking Barley’s Brewfest — at Barley’s, off Sunset Road in Henderson there, on Saturday, May 7!

Brewfest $5 menu. Brats!

Lots of great breweries will be there, including, but not limited to:

  • Sin City Brewery
  • Stone Brewing
  • Boulder Damn
  • Tenaya Creek Brewing
  • Triple 7 Brewpub
  • Widmer and more

Oh yeah, Barley’s will be pouring, too. But there’s more than just beer, as if that wasn’t enough. There’s gonna be BBQ & live music, too. I went last year, and it was great!

You don’t have to buy tickets in advance, you can just show up, from 3 to 9pm, and pay at the door. I’ll be there, and you should be, too. You probably can’t (and shouldn’t) get down all 44 gallons for the year. But you might just discover a few new favorite brews that will make doing your part for Nevada much more enjoyable.

Cheers!
Jeff

UFC 129 Viewing Parties in Las Vegas

Oops! You found an older post.
Get it on over here for information about our UFC Viewing Parties for this weekend!

UFC 129 April 30, 2011

8 UFC Fight Parties in Las Vegas at Station Casinos

UFC 129 IS a pretty historical fight – you won’t want to miss the main event between Canadian Georges St-Pierre and American Jake Shields. Shields has one heck of a winning streak going … something like 15 straight wins, spanning five or six years in various fight leagues. Here’s the problem for Shields: GSP is smarter, bigger and meaner than ever. Many think he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, and 55,000 MMA fans in Toronto will undoubtedly be in his corner of the octagon this Saturday in Toronto.

Keep an eye on these fights, too:

Two former light-heavyweight champs, living legend, 47-year old Randy Couture and unique striking expert Lyoto Machida are both capable of exciting finishes. Don’t blink. Also, former WEC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo (Joe Rogan loves this guy – “Top 3 on the planet”) vs. Mark Hominick  (mad striking skills) have both recently finished opponents in under a minute!

The UFC always does a great job of mixing top talent with up-and-comers, regional favorites and all styles of fighters, and UFC 129 is no exception. If you want to see a great snapshot of what’s awesome about Mixed Martial Arts, this is a great fight card to catch with us at one of these eight Las Vegas UFC 129 Fight Parties at Station Casinos:

“Get Staked!” $1 Million Hold’em Poker Contest

Visit the official tournament website at www.stationcasinospoker.com.

HEY POKER STAR,

Station Casinos is Staking (paying the $1,100 buy-in) one player to the Main Event table in our big No-Limit Hold’em Tournament this weekend at Green Valley Ranch.

How do you become the one who gets staked?

Fill out the form below completely, and most importantly:
Tell us why we should back you!

  • Tell us your best “bad beat” story
  • Tell us your “Super System” for playing winning tournament poker
  • Tell us about your amazing “reading” skills

There’s a minimum of $60,000 going to the winner this weekend at GVR so tell us why you’re our Ace in the Hole!

Congrats Nick G. for getting “Staked”!
Below is the winning submission. Thank to everyone for playing along. Follow Station Casinos on facebook for more “Get Staked” contests.

I am the great great great grandson of albert einstein. Okay i have no proof of that, but here is why i should be staked. I’m solid! I am 28 years old and i have recently moved to las vegas from cleveland ohio. i have made gvr my number 1 place to play. I have a million bad beat stories, but when you play the game enough you should understand that bad beats are going to happen. its not really worth my time to type them, or your time to read them. i play a more logical style of poker, rather than relying on gut feeling. i have made ace high calls on the river and been right more often than not, but in all honesty i don’t really believe in hero calls. i feel that playing the odds will give you a better win percentage in the long run. in a deepstack tournament like the one you are hosting on the 30th, my play would vary depending on the balance of my table. i can play loose aggressive, or tight aggressive, but the key word is aggressive. i have found that when i have to make a lot of decisions in poker tournaments i have poorer results, so it is best to force others to make the decisions. if selected for the staked seat, i will donate 50% of all winnings to the american cancer society, or any amount over $20,000. you have my word on that. lastly i will tell you that i work at anthem country club as a waiter, and i drive a moped. im broke, but i enjoy life regardless. i obviously wont play in this tournament unless i get the stake, so if you choose me it was meant to be. thanks for reading my essay, and good luck with your decision.

Warming Up to Summer Wine Season

A COUPLE OF weekends ago I scored a couple of passes to the Trade Tasting at UNLVino. If you’re as into wine as I am, this is like Christmas coming early. Let me say right now there is no possible way any human being could taste all the wines being poured. My friend and I only hit a fraction of them, and we still HAD to take a cab home. (Sure I could have spit like a pro, but that just slipped my mind.)

What did we taste? Well, after a quick lap of the floor, we decided to start with the bubblies. And there were plenty of them, both French Champagne and CA sparkling wines. The standouts were Nicholas Fueliette (which we serve at Red Rock Resort and Green Valley Ranch), Perrier Jouet (especially the “Flower Bottle”), and Lanson. Any of these would be great on our warm Vegas nights.

Get details on Rock n’ Roll Wine Reggae Pool Party at Green Valley Ranch on April 30

And that set our plan of attack for the rest of the night — white wines that would be great for summer. After all, the heat will be here before we know it, right? (Apologies to the Red Wine Only crowd, but that’s what we did.) Like assault troops, we hit the floor, seeking and swilling any interesting white we saw. French, German, New Zealand, Californian (but no big, buttery chardonnays), Australian, even South African.

The standouts? Well, it’s kinda foggy, but the dry German rieslings stole the show, especially those from Robert Weil’s and Phillips Eckstein. They were crisp, vibrant and made my mouth water. There were also great sauvignon blancs from New Zealand that had the same characteristics, but different flavors. And all of them would be perfect summer’s wines. Great with grilled shrimp, shrimp or chicken. Salads with goat cheese and smoked salmon. Oysters on the half, crab, even spicy Thai or Chinese takeout.

Next time you’re in one of our restaurants, try one. We usually have a good NZ sav blanc or riesling by the glass.

Hey, you could discover a new favorite just in time for summer.

Cheers,
Jeff Perry

Foreigner to Perform with Basic H.S. Concert Choir at GVR

Foreigner in concert April 29 at GVR.

LAS VEGAS – As part of the band Foreigner’s charity partnership with the Grammy Association, they will host the Basic High School Concert Choir during a performance of the band’s 1984 hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” on Friday, April 29, 2011, during their concert at the Grand Events Center inside Green Valley Ranch.

Foreigner has partnered with the Grammy Association to support their mission of restoring instrumental music education in America’s public schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child’s complete education.

“As far as I’m concerned, music is not only the most powerful form of communication between the peoples of the world, it provides a gateway that opens up a fantastic new dimension of feeling and creative, and anything we can do to provide our young ones with the tools to express themselves through music, is our goal in this partnership,” Foreigner Guitarist Mick Jones said.

As part of the partnership, Foreigner is donating $1,000 to the Basic H.S. Concert Choir to use towards its music program.

Purchase tickets to Foreigner at the Grand Events Center

The latest Foreigner CD, Can’t Slow Down, will be made available for purchase to concertgoers before and after the concert. For $20, the buyer receives Foreigner’s new three-disc set and a raffle ticket. An autographed Foreigner guitar will be raffled off at the end of the concert. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the CDs will go to the Grammy Association program.

Foreigner has also been involved with other charities including the Red Cross, the Shriners Children’s Hospitals and the VH-1 Save the Music charity, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for these worthy causes.

The Foreigner concert will be inside the Grand Events Center at Green Valley Ranch on Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m. Foreigner tickets are on sale now for $25, $35, $45 and $55 plus tax and applicable fees. This is an all ages show and those under 21 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased at any Station Casinos Reward Center and The Fiestas, by calling (702) 547-5300 or at www.stationcasinos.com.

A ‘We Love Locals’ User Guide…from a Local

I’M A LOCAL, who happens to also work (eat, drink and play) at Station Casinos. And as a local I enjoy a flashy marketing campaign like “We Love Locals” as much as the next Las Vegan. Hey, it’s Vegas. Go big or go to (insert non-exciting town here), right?

When we first launched “We Love Locals” back in February we went big:

  1. TV commercials starring employees with a classic, catchy tune…All You Need is Love
  2. Gave away 10 new cars every day for like three weeks
  3. Even made merchandise (hats, T-shirts, bumper stickers, coffee mugs) to share the sentiment

We hope we made a big splash in a pretty big pond.

I (back to me, the local) also expect some value with my marketing flash. While the TV commercials still run, some lucky folks are driving around in new cars, and I use my coffee cup almost every day, the “We Love Locals” campaign continues…but what’s in it for me? In other words, I want some steak to go with the sizzle.

Here’s a list of ongoing value in the “We Love Locals” campaign in order of awesomeness. Love Ya!

  1. Twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) at www.weluvlocals.com you can get a free coupon for good stuff. Very popular winning deals so far have included 2-4-1 buffet, a $100 gift card for $50, and 50% off 1- and 2-night hotel stays. Psst: you don’t even have to be a local to get the coupon.
  2. Every one of our casinos is offering $5 Double Deck 24/7. (And, yes, Blackjack pays 3 to 2. This isn’t The Strip.)
  3. All the Feast Buffets have new pricing with $4.99 breakfast, $6.99 lunch and either $9.99 or 12.99 dinner/Sunday Brunch. Seriously, try getting a made-to-order omelet for less than $8…plus there’s the $3 orange juice…$2.50 coffee…can’t beat that Feast breakfast.
  4. Sweet hotel deals: Check out our Las Vegas hotel deal myVacation or our Online Exclusive if you’re looking for a local StayCation or coming from Des Moines.
  5. More food, each of our Mexican restaurants has a $7.99 2-Item Combo special and each one of our Italian restaurants has a $9.99 Chicken Parmesan deal going.
  6. Our Entertainment team has more bookings this year than a high-crime area (sorry). Country music. Jazz. Rock. More than 1,000 shows! It’s on in 2011. Let me try that again: we got music heaven in 2011. A little better.
  7. Time for a drink. All of our bars have 99-cent Margaritas 24/7 and all Belvedere Vodka drinks are half-price every day from 4pm to 6pm.
  8. More, more food: Every one of our Grand Cafés (Red Rock, Palace, Boulder and Sunset currently) is serving a super affordable breakfast ($3.99 2-Egg Skillet), lunch ($5.99 ½-lb. Angus Burger) and dinner ($9.99 King-Cut Prime Rib Dinner) menu items.

What do you think? Enough love? What would you have included in the campaign? Let me know below!
