On April 25th, Station Casinos executives joined the Clark County School District Superintendent, Dwight Jones and principals representing the Smart Start elementary schools at a special breakfast reception to celebrate a 12-year partnership and to donate $66,000 to eleven at-risk elementary schools in the Las Vegas Valley.
Since Smart Start’s inception in 2000, Station Casinos has contributed $2.4 million to dozens of high-need elementary schools and provided needed resources and volunteers to improve education in the classrooms.
Each of the 11 school principals will be presented with a $5,000 donation to support the student programs as well as an additional $1,000 per school to be used during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 7) to honor their staff in a special way for all they do for the students.
As part of Smart Start, each Station Casinos’ property is paired with an at-risk elementary school where they volunteer hundreds of hours each year for back-to-school supply drives, serve as homework helpers, provide food for teacher appreciation events, host etiquette luncheons to teach kids about manners and provide prizes to reward students for academic success to name a few of the efforts.
Smart Start funds are administered through the Clark County Public Education Foundation. Schools are required to utilize the funds to help meet the goals they set forth in their individual School Improvement Plan that is required annually by the school district.
