Smart Start Partnership and Station Casinos Distribute School Supplies

STATION CASINOS TO DISTRIBUTE LARGEST SCHOOL SUPPLIES DONATION EVER TO THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS VALLEY WIDE

As part of its “Smart Start” school partnership to assist high need elementary schools, Station Casinos distributed thousands of school supplies and backpacks to 11 elementary schools valley wide this week, giving students a boost for the beginning of the academic year. Each Station Casinos’ property is paired up with a local elementary school to provide year-round assistance and events that are customized to the needs of the school’s staff and students. To date, the Company has donated more than $2.4 million to its partner schools.

Today marks the first of eleven school supply delivery by Station Casinos to Whitney Elementary where employees surprised the school principal, teachers and students with the largest amount of school supplies in the 12 year Smart Start history including:

600 back packs            17,000 boxes of crayons                     14,200 pencils

8,600 markers              800 scissors                                         900 folders

1,800 erasers               500 notebooks                                     10 cases of paper

400 pencil cases          1200 paper towel rolls

Other necessities including soap and tissues were also donated to Whitney Elementary, where more than 85% of the school’s student body is homeless.

Smart Start is a community initiative of Station Casinos to assist high-need elementary schools with assistance and volunteer time to help improve the quality of education in the classrooms and provide needed resources to teachers and students. Station Casinos partners with the following schools:

  • C.T. Sewell Elementary (Fiesta Henderson)
  • C.P. Squires Elementary (Texas Station)
  • Lois Craig (Aliante Station)
  • Robert L. Taylor Elementary (Green Valley Ranch)
  • Whitney Elementary (Station Casinos Corporate Offices, Wildfire Gaming)

Other Smart Start efforts throughout the school year include providing volunteers as homework helpers and classroom volunteers, hosting etiquette luncheons to teach children about table manners, honoring teachers with appreciation events to name a few.
