Las Vegas Karaoke Nights at Station Casinos

Disco Karaoke at Fiesta Henderson on July 24 got funky.

IF YOU LIKE karaoke (and who doesn’t after a few cocktails), then you’ll love Rock and Game Gameshow. It’s like a more-interactive version of karaoke. Let’s say karaoke on steroids.

It’s the brain-child of Stevenson Brooks, who plays the acoustic guitar, and Matthew Phillips, who acts as host while coaching the audience how to be a rock star. Willing participants play games like, “Name That Tune,” “Don’t Forget the Lyrics,” “Song Lyric Trivia,” “Craziest Dance,” and “Laz-y-oke (karaoke from your chair).”

Rock and Roll Gameshow is currently at Green Valley Ranch’s Quinn’s Irish Pub on Wednesday nights from 8pm to 11pm, and Boulder Station’s Kixx Bar on Saturday nights from 8pm to 11pm.

LAS VEGAS COMEDY: Louie Anderson LOL Opens Sept. 7 at Palace Station

STANDING ON STAGE in the room at Palace Station that will soon brandish his name, Louie Anderson tells members of the media that he’s getting old and that at this phase of his career he has accomplished everything that he ever wanted when he began in comedy some three decades ago.

“I thought 50 was just a number. Fifty is a condition,” he said.

Don’t be fooled.

Louie, now 57, is better than ever. He recalls, to the day (November 21, 1984), when he was performing with the likes of Jim Carrey, Andrew “Dice” Clay and Bob Saget at the Comedy Store at the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas.

Louie, with more than 30 years in the biz, still incessantly tests new material, perfecting his act that will open at the new Louie Anderson Theater at Palace Station on September 7. “After 31 years of stand-up comedy, I’m happy to say I have never been better on stage,” he said.

Louie is our new headliner at the new Louie Anderson Theater. His show, officially titled Louis Anderson LOL presented by Bonkerz Comedy Productions, opens September 7 at 8:30pm. Louie will perform nightly Tuesday – Saturday at 8:30pm. He has already invited big-name guests to perform at his theater, name-dropping Roseanne Barr, Arsenio Hall and Carrey as possible future “announced and unannounced” guests.

Zowie Bowie’s Red Rock Return Heats Up Vegas Music Scene

LAS VEGAS – BACK BY POPULAR demand, Zowie Bowie is making a return to Red Rock Resort. The duo brings its unique blend of today’s hottest dance, hip-hop and Top 40 music to audiences at Rocks Lounge every Friday, beginning Sept. 3, 2010.

Zowie Bowie features the musical talents and unbridled energy of Chris Phillips, Marley Taylor and a high-voltage band that creates a sizzling and sexy sound that has become a Las Vegas mainstay. The two moved to Vegas in 2006 from Scottsdale, Ariz. to open and perform weekly at Red Rock Resort, where they quickly went on to become the city’s favorite local band. After three years, the pair moved to the Strip where they performed both their nightclub dance concert and their dream of an authentic Vintage Vegas show. Though it was their dream, the couple realized that performing for the locals at Red Rock Resort was really where they wanted to be.

“It was amazing getting to perform on the Strip, however we missed the fans that our shows at Red Rock brought in week after week,” said Zowie Bowie Lead Singer Chris Phillips. “After hearing an overwhelming response from locals that they too missed us at Red Rock, we realized that is where we truly belong and the move back just feels right.”

“We’re excited to have Zowie Bowie back at Rocks Lounge,” said Judy Alberti, vice president of entertainment for Station Casinos. “They’re adding to the unparalleled entertainment we offer at Red Rock from our Sandbar outdoor poolside concerts this summer that features top artists such as Rob Thomas, Don Henley and Train, to our Party on the Rocks concert series every Saturday night. And with the newly opened Yard House to start off the night, the party will keep going, ever reinforcing that Red Rock is a one-stop destination for dining and entertainment.”

Zowie Bowie will perform every Friday night, beginning Sept. 3 at Rocks Lounge, Red Rock Resort’s intimate 150-seat Las Vegas concert venue. Doors open at 10 p.m. and the show will start at 11 p.m. The show is open to adults 21 years or older and there is no cost for admission. VIP bottle service is available upon request. Entry will be first come, first served and based upon venue capacity.

Joining the Ranks of the ‘Viral’ Marketing World

WE RECENTLY MADE our first video exclusively for YouTube.

Big deal, you say? Well, we think so. As you might be aware, Station Casinos is very adept at producing and shooting professional television and radio commercials promoting everything from gaming to entertainment to dining for our Las Vegas Hotel Casinos. Sometimes we then post those TV spots on our YouTube page. But this newest video is a little different. This was more “shoot and post,” as is the way in today’s viral marketing world. We had fun making the video while not worrying too much about our “brand” or “corporate identity.” It was just…real…I guess is the correct word.

The video’s “talent” is none other than Lauren Westerfield, Director of Marketing at Boulder Station. As far as we know, Lauren doesn’t have any official acting training. She didn’t even have a script. The lighting wasn’t ideal, and the sound man, let’s just say he also writes posts for this blog.

RECIPE BOX: Kansas City-Style Ribs

IT’S SUMMER! THAT means barbecue as Chef Dirk gets all Midwestern with ribs and sauce goodness from the Show Me State.

Ingredients: Ribs

  • 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 3 TBL sweet paprika
  • 2 tsp dry mustard
  • ½ tsp celery seed
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp chipotle chili powder
  • 4 racks (two 2 1/2 lbs each) St. Louis style pork ribs
  • 2 cups boiling water

Ingredients: Sauce

  • 1 28 oz can tomato puree
  • ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 3 TBL Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 TBL dry mustard
  • 1 tsp chipotle chili powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ½ cup hot water

Method
Prepare the ribs

  1. In a large bowl combine sugar, paprika, dry mustard, celery seed, onion powder, garlic powder, chipotle powder and 1 TBL salt.
  2. In 2 large 17” x 13” roasting pans, place ribs.
  3. Rub spice mixture all over ribs overlapping in pans.
  4. Cover pans and refrigerate at least 1 hour or up to one day.

Prepare the sauce

  1. In a 4-quart saucepan , combine tomato puree, brown sugar, vinegar, tomato paste, Worcestershire
    sauce, dry mustard, chipotle powder and ½ tsp black pepper.
  2. Heat to boiling on high, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat to medium low; cover partially and simmer 45 minutes or until thickened.
  4. Cool completely in pan.
  5. Pour 1 ¼ cups of sauce into serving bowl and stir in hot water; reserve.

Prepare for cooking

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Uncover ribs and add 1 cup boiling water to each pan.
  3. Cover pans tightly with foil.
  4. Bake 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, or until tender.
  5. Prepare outdoor grill for direct grilling on medium.
  6. Place ribs on hot grill grate, bone side down and cook 2 minutes.
  7. Brush with sauce in pan and turn ribs over; cook 5 minutes.
  8. Repeat brushing and turning 2 more times.
  9. Cook ribs an additional 10 minutes.
  10. Cut racks into single portions and serve with reserved sauce.

STATION CASINOS TO HOST LARGEST 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS SHOW IN SOUTHERN NEVADA WITH FIVE-PROPERTY FIREWORKS SHOW

LAS VEGAS — Continuing its 4th of July tradition, five Station Casinos’ properties will host the largest 4th of July fireworks show in Southern Nevada on Sunday, July 4 around 9pm for the entire community to enjoy.

The nine-minute fireworks show, named “Station Casinos’ 4th of July Blast” will be in celebration of the nation’s 234th birthday and will be featured at Aliante Station, Green Valley Ranch Resort, Fiesta Rancho and Texas Station as a shared location and Red Rock Resort.

Five of Station Casinos properties will host fireworks displays on July 4th

The fireworks show will be produced by Fireworks by the Gruccis of New York, one of the premiere fireworks companies in the world who annually produces the 4th of July fireworks events as well past hotel-casino openings on behalf of Station Casinos.

  • It takes four days and approximately 700 man hours to set up the fireworks at all five locations
  • The state-of-the-art fireworks program is electronically fired from a computer-generated script featuring choreography between the music and fireworks
  • The Grucci family brought 17 pyrotechincians out to set up and launch the five shows
  • It took nearly 100 hours to choreograph the five shows
  • 71 firing batteries will be used
  • There will be 346 firing cues
  • It takes nine miles of wire to circuit the firing batteries
  • The lumber necessary for the set up is equivalent to what is used to side an average family house

  • The Grucci’s of New York are one of the premiere fireworks companies in the world. Over the years they have produced some of the most extravagant fireworks shows including seven consecutive U.S. presidential inaugurations and several Olympic Games.

Las Vegas Restaurants: Sneak Peek at IL VINO

ALIANTE STATION IS opening a new Italian restaurant called IL VINO Cucina & Wine Bar today!

With dishes starting at under $10, Il Vino offers an affordable menu of Italian fusion cuisine (or use “authentic Italian cuisine”). ImenuFor those with smaller appetites, they even offer a small bites menu, with appetizers for just $4! It has a huge wine cellar too, if that’s your sort of thing. Enjoy their special La Valle tomatoes with your date, or the whole family!  And, most importantly, the food is outstanding based on the recent sample tasting. We think it will be one of the best Italian restaurants in Las Vegas and hope that it will become one of your favorite places to dine.
