Las Vegas: Tequila Town, USA

Las Vegas is known for a lot of things. To start, there’s always been gambling, but there’s also the great live entertainment, the nightclubs and more celebrity-chef restaurants than you can shake a breadstick at. But you may not know that Sin City is one helluva tequila town. That’s right my fellow tequila lovers, get out your maps and draw a big, red bulls eye on Vegas!

What’s that? You want proof? OK, there are 12 tequila bars on The Strip alone. And I’m not counting that place with the giant parrot on the front. I know because I’ve been to all of them — in one weekend. No, it wasn’t pretty, but that’s beside the point. I’m talking about a cool dozen establishments that either specialize in fine tequilas, or have a very nice selection of said agave-based intoxicants. Don’t want to go to The Strip, no problemo. I can point you to several spots that can more than satisfy your thirst.

Las Vegas Tequila Bars

Station Casinos' Mexican Restaurants have a wide range of margaritas and premium tequilas. Aliante Station's Cabo is shown here.

No matter where you go, you’re sure to find something you haven’t had. And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? The search for your new favorite tequila. Which leads me to the question: What’s your favorite tequila? Right now, mine’s Don Pilar Anejo, but more on that later.

And then there’s this question: Blanco, Reposado or Anejo? Oh, and what do you like in a margarita?

Seriously, I want to know!

Cheers,

The Best Hotel Experience Excels At Making You Feel At Home

WHEN WAS THE last time someone made you feel at home during your travels?

I have stayed at hundreds of hotels, some big and some small. Some have been expensive and some of them were dirt cheap! But it was the hotel where I had little to no expectations that I enjoyed my stay the most.

Think back to all the times you have stayed at a hotel. What do you remember most about the best stay you ever had? Did you pay a king’s ransom and expect a great stay only to be underwhelmed? By contrast, is there a limited service gem in your past travels that surpassed all your expectations because the hospitality you experienced made a lasting impression? No doubt it was the staff that made the difference, not simply by making you feel special, but also by making you feel at home.

It is my singular goal to ensure that our hotels are providing an experience that you can tell your friends about. It’s not just about the amenities, the beautiful weather or the many options our properties have to offer. It’s entirely because of our people.

Our Team Members are the lifeblood of our company. Without them, who could provide such great service? If you have stayed with us before, whether just once or a hundred times, what experiences can you share?

Welcome…. Home!

Winter Fun Part 1: Ski Las Vegas

IN THIS TWO-part blog installment, we’re celebrating the chilly weather fun in Las Vegas. You might have thought it was impossible to ski Las Vegas, but just in time for Las Vegas skiing and snowboarding fans, Station Casinos’ popular Ski and Snowboarding Resort Packages – the “Ski-Cation” deals – are back for the 2010-2011 season!

Take it from a local who frequents the beautiful Las Vegas ski areas: this is a great deal. Our packages offer all of the winter fun, with none of the hassle of driving on slick roads. Plus, you can take advantage of the unique dining deals at each hotel casino, as well as our theaters, nightlife and the spa at Red Rock – all of these are quite nice after a day on the slopes!

More Tips for Skiing in Las Vegas

  1. Meet at Santa Fe Station for breakfast, then carpool with your friends or grab the shuttle to the ski resort.
  2. Get there early if it’s the day after a storm or a holiday weekend. When the parking lot gets full, the parking attendant at the resort may turn you away.
  3. Don’t speed! Mostly because it’s dangerous, but there’s also a very busy Highway Patrolman who isn’t shy about writing tickets.
  4. Don’t ski in the snowboard park, and don’t snowplow your snowboard over skiers’ moguls.
  5. Dress in layers. Just because it’s 60 degrees in Las Vegas doesn’t mean it’s not snowing and 25 degrees on the mountain.
  6. Wear sunscreen. You’re closer to the sun up there and skin cancer sucks.
  7. Don’t hesitate to take a lesson. The instructors are very nice and very good at making sure you have fun on the ski slopes without getting hurt.
  8. Bring a few extra bucks for a slice of pizza or a burger, or if you have a driver – enjoy some great micro brews in the lounge.
  9. Check this website for conditions
  10. Have fun!

Part 2 will share more than a “Hat Trick” of fun that you can have with Station Casinos and Fiestas this winter on ice skates. (Or would you prefer a “Double-Axel” of fun?)

See you on the mountain!

WWWlogo_blog

Agreement ushers in the return of a Days Inn location in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS — Executives from Station Casinos, Inc. have announced an agreement to bring the Days Inn hotel brand to the Wild Wild West Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, ushering in the return of a Days Inn location in Las Vegas. The property will be rebranded as Days Inn – Las Vegas at Wild Wild West Gambling Hall. Reservations are now being accepted through the Days Inn reservation system for hotel stays beginning December 15, 2009.

The Wild Wild West Gambling Hall is located at 3330 W. Tropicana Ave on the northwest corner of Tropicana Ave. and I-15 behind the Las Vegas Strip. It features 260 guest rooms and suites; 24-hour dining at Denny’s; a pool area and a casino offering table games, a sports book and more than 200 slot and video poker machines. Due to its premiere location off the I-15 interstate, the Wild Wild West also serves as a major truck stop in Las Vegas and features an on-site fueling station and parking for more than 200 trucks.

The association will bring Days Inn guest service and room standards to the Wild Wild West property, as well as allow guests who stay at any participating Wyndham Hotel Group property to take part in the Wyndham Rewards ® loyalty program, the largest loyalty program in the lodging industry based on the number of participating hotels. The hotel staff will remain team members of Station Casinos.

Guests of Days Inn – Las Vegas at Wild Wild West will enjoy complimentary coffee each day provided inside Denny’s, WI-FI access, cable television including HBO, hair dryer, desk, complimentary USA Today and a coin operated laundry facility. The hotel is also pet friendly. Room rates will start at $39.99 a night.

“Aligning with Days Inn, a well-established and respected hotel brand, provides the Wild Wild West property an amazing opportunity to draw in guests who have an affinity for staying at a Days Inn location wherever and whenever they travel,” said Kevin Kelley, COO of Station Casinos.

“We are very pleased to have the Days Inn brand represented in Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world,” said Clyde Guinn, Days Inn President. “We are also very excited to bring together our internationally recognized hotel brand and Station Casinos, an entertainment institution that has been a part of the Southern Nevada community for over 33 years.”

LET’S GO BOWLING: Early Lines for Bowl Games Now Available

Sports books at all Station Casinos locations, including at Red Rock Resort, are ready with the early lines for college bowl season.

Sports Books at all Station Casinos locations, including at Red Rock Resort, are ready with the early lines for college bowl season.

Trivia Time: Which of the following is not a real college bowl game?

  1. Little Caesars Pizza Bowl
  2. Eagle Bank Bowl
  3. Chick-Fil-A Bowl
  4. Humanitarian Bowl
  5. Emerald Bowl

Answer: None of the above. These are five of  34, yes 34, games this bowl season. (By the way, Chick-Fil-A is delicious.) Depending on your point of view, 34 bowl games is either somewhat ridiculous or just awesome.

Jason McCormick, Director of Race and Sports, tells the Blog that the early lines for the BCS Games are currently available at Station Casinos Sports Books and the odds for the rest of the other 29 bowl games will be on the board by the end of the week. The first bowl game kicks off Saturday, December 19.

With all the upcoming college football bowl games, along with college hoops, pro hockey, basketball and football, now is a great time to check our Sports Connection, Station Casinos’ remote-betting option.

Here’s what we know. Who do you think is favored at the Sports Book?

  • Alabama looked awesome beating Florida. Texas needed an end-of-game field goal to get by feisty Nebraska.
  • Undefeated and unknown Boise St. will face undefeated and hardly known TCU. The winner will likely be left as the only undefeated team (assuming a Cincy lost) this season not to be called national champions.
  • Cincinnati puts its undefeated record on the line versus defending-champion Florida.

If you want to argue about which is the best team this year, tell us below or vote at our poll to the right.

Happy Bowling!

Vegas Milestone: Boulder Station Celebrates 15 Years

15years2inside

15-YEAR ANNIVERSARY. The team has become a "second family" for many of the 150 employees who have worked at the casino on Boulder Highway since it opened in August 1993.

Boulder Station opened its doors to the city of Las Vegas on August 23, 1993. Fifteen wonderful years after that historic day, our property still continues to be a leading contender along the Boulder Highway. More importantly, more than 150 of the original Team Members who helped with the opening proudly remain dedicated to supporting and providing service to our guests.

On August 23, 2009, our Station Casinos Team Members were treated to brunch. The menu included eggs Benedict, carved ham, seasoned potatoes, as well as other delicious food. A special event was planned for our Team Members who have been with the company for 15 years or longer. The festivities were held in the Railhead and Team Members feasted on a gourmet menu that featured grilled steak medallions, chicken Marsala, sautéed asparagus, and much more!

General Manager Don Richardson invited Team Members to say a few words on their fondest memories while working at Boulder Station. Tears were shed and the laughter was contagious, but the constant message resonated through each speech was that “Boulder Station was a second family.”

The evening ended with a raffle where each Team Member was given a small token of appreciation. As one Team Member stated, “I will work for Boulder Station for 15 more years and 15 more years after that!”

Post any of your fond memory of Boulder Station below. Thanks for your support.
