A big early August lineup is in store for UFC fight fans, with a potentially thrilling card lined up for the freebie on Fox this coming Saturday [UFConFox4]. That’s to be followed up a mere week later with the momentous UFC 150 featuring the championship rematch between current Lightweight title-holder Benson Henderson and the former Champ Frank Edgar.

The free card this weekend is sure to pack fireworks, as two former Light Heavyweight Champions go into battle as favorites over formidable opponents. Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua will not face each Saturday, but a future title shot rematch is at stake for each man. A ton of buzz surrounds the card for this reason, as Dana White just yesterday confirmed that UFC on Fox 4′s main event and co-main event will act as a 4 man challenger tournament for the next shot at Jon Jones 205 lbs. strap. Yes, we know what you’re thinking…. this absolutely does mean that the underdogs in both fights (Ryan Bader and Brandon Vera) have the rare opportunity to become a real-life Rocky story.

Local Fox 5 Las Vegas will be broadcasting live from the UFC Fight Party in Club Madrid at Sunset Station. Fox 5 anchors Olivia Fiero, Kevin Bolinger and Claudine Grant will be ON AIR hosts for the event. Doors open at 3:30 and the FOX team goes live with their Fight Night pre-show between 4-5pm. The beautiful Xyience Ring Girls and MMA Fight Corner host Joey Varner will be on hand, as will UFC Fighters Evan Dunham and Martin Kampmann. Other attending fighters to be announced later.

A number of other fan favorites and title contenders are on tap for UFC on Fox 4, and aside from Sunset Station you can catch the live action at any Station Casino Race and Sports book. Alternatively, you can catch it at home on your couch. It’s FREE on FOX people!

The following Saturday, August 11th marks a significant milestone with the roundly numbered UFC 150! The Lightweights always seem to bring it, and at the championship level it’s been years since a scrap for the belt wasn’t a barn burner. The rematch between Franky Edgar and Ben Henderson has ‘Fight of the Year’ potential, and a victory from either man solidifies a spot in the top 10 ‘P4P’ club [pound-for-pound best]. A win by Edgar would be particularly noteworthy and would go a long way towards cementing Edgar as legendary, not just a ‘former champ’.

UFC 150 also features 155 lbers Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard battling it out for top contender status among Lightweights. Based on past performance, you can’t discount the possibility of this fight outshining the main event for ‘Fight of the Night’ honors. Neither man is known for taking the safest route to home, and each are rewarded for their styles with fan favorite status. Should be a great co-main event.

UFC 150 also has Jake Shields going against Ed Herman, Yushin Okami battling Buddy Roberts, and a pile of promising up and comers will clash in the 185 lb. weight class and below. Seven UFC 144 Viewing Parties In Las Vegas

THE MAIN EVENTS for UFC 144 will get their share of the headlines, including a highly anticipated lightweight title fight and the return of the all-time Japanese crowd pleaser Quinton Rampage Jackson. You’re in for a great fight card top to bottom this weekend at our UFC 144 Viewing Parties in Las Vegas. The UFC has pulled out all the stops for this highly significant return to martial arts sacred ground. Several of Japan’s best fighters are showcased on this card, plus two fighters will return from the losing end of recent title fights. Jake Sheilds and Yushin Okami both have their backs to the wall and need impressive performances.

The main event between reigning lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and #1 contender Benson Henderson could turn into a marathon. Each fighter possess a huge gas tank and a solid chin. The co-main event could be the mirror image, however. With light heavyweights Rampage Jackson and Ryan Bader clashing, this fight is likely to be significantly shorter in duration. Have your beers in hand for this one before round one is officially “dinged”.

Edgar and Henderson are both extremely fast and tough cardio warriors who like to take their opponent’s game apart methodically while keeping them guessing over the course of many action packed rounds. Rampage and Bader likely just want to bang it out. Rampage is royalty in Japan, a major star who wants an exciting fight even more than he wants the win. Stemming back from his prime in the formerly prominent PRIDE organization, there is an entire nation of MMA fans waiting to welcome him “home”. Both Jackson and Bader bring a monster right hand shot, and with that a potential one punch finish to their rival’s evening.

My pick for the DON’T BLINK fight of the night is Anthony Pettis vs. Joe Lauzon. Pettis is famous for flying off the cage and landing a head kick to main event participant Benson Henderson in their earlier bout for the WEC title (see it at the end of this post). Meanwhile, his opponent Joe Lauzon just collects “fight of the night” bonuses for a living. Seriously, blink and you might miss this one!

UFC 134 Fight Parties at Station Casinos in Las Vegas

AUGUST 2011 MAY be the biggest month in UFC history. According to UFC Pres. Dana White, UFC fans are in for big, big things.

Namely, in the long-term, UFC just signed on with FOX, starting in the coming months. Pretty big deal for fight fans like us, as well as our friends who don’t yet know what a rear naked choke or a spinning backfist is.

In the short term, there’s a pretty HUGE fight card (Silva, Okami, Griffin, Rua, Nogiera, and more) on tap for Saturday, August 27 in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, home of the best fighters in Mixed Martial Arts history (Gracies, Silva, Rua, Nogieras – who am I forgetting?). Eight great places to watch UFC 130 in Las Vegas on Memorial Day Weekend

WE WELCOME THE UFC back home to Las Vegas on Memorial Day Weekend with open arms. (Even the boxing fans, probably.) The UFC 130 fight card has changed a few times due to injuries, but that doesn’t mean it’s weak, by any means.

Knockout artist Rampage Jackson returns to the octagon to face a very tough wrestler in Matt Hamill. A couple Las Vegas locals do battle as well – heavyweights Frank Mir and Roy Nelson square off. Awhile back we wrote a pretty cool blog post about Frank Mir and his father, Frank II, who works at Station Casinos. (We Love UFC and you know We Love Locals, right?)

Also, don’t miss the always-exciting striker, Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story, and you gotta watch the 6’11 Skyscraper Struve. 135-pounders Miguel Angel Torres and Demetrious Johnson will be a 100-mph slugfest, no doubt.

8 UFC Fight Parties in Las Vegas at Station Casinos

UFC 129 IS a pretty historical fight – you won’t want to miss the main event between Canadian Georges St-Pierre and American Jake Shields. Shields has one heck of a winning streak going … something like 15 straight wins, spanning five or six years in various fight leagues. Here’s the problem for Shields: GSP is smarter, bigger and meaner than ever. Many think he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, and 55,000 MMA fans in Toronto will undoubtedly be in his corner of the octagon this Saturday in Toronto.

Keep an eye on these fights, too:

Two former light-heavyweight champs, living legend, 47-year old Randy Couture and unique striking expert Lyoto Machida are both capable of exciting finishes. Don’t blink. Also, former WEC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo (Joe Rogan loves this guy – “Top 3 on the planet”) vs. Mark Hominick (mad striking skills) have both recently finished opponents in under a minute!

The UFC always does a great job of mixing top talent with up-and-comers, regional favorites and all styles of fighters, and UFC 129 is no exception. BONES JONES JUST defeated Ryan Bader on February 5 – and the UFC wasted no time in getting the dynamic young fighter back in the Octagon. Some people were shocked that Jones was awarded a title fight so early in his career, and in such a competitive division (light heavyweight). To others, it makes perfect sense. Bones has an insane reach advantage, great wrestling, and Jiu-Jitsu skills that have outmatched every UFC opponent, with the exception of Matt Hamill, who won when Jones was disqualified for using illegal strikes.

Shogun Rua is on quite a roll himself. Rua looked strong taking the belt in his rematch with Lyoto Machida after their tough, close first match the first time around. Before that he knocked out UFC Legends Chuck Liddell and Mark Coleman.

FAN FAVORITE BJ Penn’s fight game is not to be questioned. He’s one of the most dominant fighters in recent UFC history in multiple weight classes, and though he had some setbacks in 2010 (namely, Frankie Edgar’s boxing skills) at 155 lbs., Penn’s toughest challenge yet could come this weekend at 170 lbs. in Sydney, Australia, at the hands of gritty grappler-extraordinaire, Jon Fitch. Fitch has been on a mean streak and is looking for a title shot.

Saturday’s fight card from Sydney features several key fights that are sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats in any of the below locations in Las Vegas. Michael Bisping takes a 21-3 record into the Octagon vs. 18-7 Jorge Rivera. George Sotiropoulos vs. Dennis Siver has the makings of being a highlight reel of its own, and don’t miss Spencer Fisher vs. Ross Pearson, two of the scrappiest 155 lb. fighters in the UFC. Other familiar faces on this card are Nick Ring, Kyle Noke and Chris Lytle. Any of them could take home big bonuses for knockout of the night or submission of the night.
